16 and counting

It's amazing how quickly time passes. Just the other day, I was speaking with B about how much we have changed over the years.

See, B and I go waaay back. When I first met her, I was 17, fresh out of secondary school, first job and just inherited a broken family. She was 26, and just joined the legal firm I was working at. We bonded over the love of books (or rather, romances), exchanging stories about our eccentric families and just chatting over numerous things.

Who knew that we would remain friends until today?

Well, its amazing how we've grown over the years. Till today, its quite a feat for two such different people to connect and actually trust each other to give their opinions and advice. Although we share some similar traits and possess evil streaks a mile wide, the differences are what make this friendship interesting. And is probably why we've hung out for so long. For sure, there have been times where we have completely disagreed over things, fallen out and given each other such critical advice but at the end of the day, its the bond that holds. Then there were the hilarious moments when we were mistakened as partners, people who thought we were family or some just weird and all out moments of total zaniness.

While some people are under the impression that friends should be in each other's pockets all the time, we've somehow managed to grow up and with each other as a companion. Being friends does not mean that we function as a clone of each other. That would be freaking scary.

Its the respect and the love that holds all this together. To know that there is someone out there who would support you or kick your ass when things get crazy and you can't see straight. Over the years, there have been too many stories and too many shenanighans to count but, at the end of the day, I have to say that it has not been boring.

Hence, this post is a dedication, to the person who has grown up with me all these years.

So here's to you, my friend,
Who's weathered the good and the bad
who's been there through it all.
Somehow we managed to grow up, thank God!

And though we may disagree over things
It has taken a quite a while it seems
to be individuals who are seen as equals
not just clones of one being.

So here's to us,
may we weather the years well.
For who knows what the future yields?
And we would definately need to be there for each other still :o)

what an inspiration! As a friend's husband said after seeing his wife and me go and on and on "The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart.."
(and yea, if we were like each other, it'd be fricking scary)
